Medium Secure Service
Burlington ward provides medium secure beds for patients with Acquired Brain Injuries detained under the Mental Health Act. Patients are admitted to Burlington following a detailed pre admission Multi Disciplinary assessment. Patients are referred from the courts, prison transfers, high secure hospitals and other hospitals.
All patients have an initial 12 week assessment of their cognitive, mental health and social needs. An enhanced Care Programme Approach (CPA) meeting is held following the initial assessment followed by regular 6 monthly CPA meetings.
All patients are allocated a key worker/named nurse based on a cognitive neuro rehabilitation model and a nominated Clinical Psychologist, to ensure implementation of a unique rehabilitation programme.
Patients have access to a range of Occupational Therapy facilities and services which are contained in a detailed daily planner for each patient. The planning and integration of daily activities and events into a personal daily planner is central to the rehabilitation model.
All patients have access to an independent specialist professional advocacy service as part of the overall care package.
Most patients admitted to Burlington ward have a range of complex unmet needs, with multiple previous placements and significant forensic histories. Burlington ward offers an opportunity to break this cycle and put into place an appropriate care plan designed around the unique neuro rehabilitation needs of the patient group.
